Blackstones Review
A couple years back, it was my middle brother JJ’s bar mitzvah and we needed somewhere to go after. My Dad said to my Mom that we should go to this fancy steakhouse in Southport. After we had eaten there, it was evident that we’d be going back.
My family has been going to Blackstones to celebrate important events like birthdays and graduations. It’s my favorite place to eat in all of Fairfield county. People know about this restaurant because it’s known for being one of the best and most fancy steakhouses around. The steak here is amazing as it’s dry aged and comes with the best sear ever. Westport and Southport are known as small, rich towns where people value good quality food, and especially because so many people move here from New York City. It reflects how the people here want good and fancy steakhouses almost so they can feel like they are back in New York. It’s almost like Wolfgang's steakhouse, but I think wolfgangs is a bit better, however not by a lot.
On this particular day, I was with my two brothers, Mom, Dad, and both my Grandmas. We were celebrating my oldest brother Griffin, graduating from college, which happened to be Mother’s Dday, s. So Griffin, my Mom, and my Grandmas decided on Blackstones.
Walking into Blackstones, we are greeted by a hostess who immediately said welcome to Blackstones. Although we had a reservation, we still had to wait 10 minutes which isn’t totally common. The restaurant was pretty big and it was completely full. We walked over to a very fancy table with white table cloths and red velvet chairs passing by a metal bull in the middle of the restaurant, which was life sized and black.
When we were seated, the waiter greeted us very politely. Their professionalism and attentive service gave us a great first impression. From their good menu knowledge to their personal connections, they went above and beyond to ensure a delightful meal. I would say they deserved a good tip. The menu is filled with many amazing choices, it was grouped by appetizers, drinks, entrees, steaks, and desserts. I shared the porterhouse like usual and I always like it medium, . But you can get it well done, medium well, medium, medium rare, rare, and blue rare. All the choices you can choose from were amazing, but nothing on the menu was below $13. I started off with a peppery, crispy caesar salad that was blanketed with strips of parmesan cheese. This was a very enjoyable salad because the pieces of lettuce were very small, and the dressing was amazing and had the perfect amount on. I also got a sizzling slab of chewy, fatty bacon as an appetizer. My brothers, Dad and I shared the beautifully prepared Jumbo shrimp cocktail that came with 4 majestic pieces of shrimp served in an oversized glass filled with ice. This portion is appropriate for one person, but we were ordering so much other food, we were happy with one shrimp each. I prefer my shrimp with a lot of lemon juice squeezed onto it and it was delicious. My brothers and Dad liked the cocktail sauce because it was spicy. For my entree’, my brother, my dad and myself ordered a medium porterhouse steak for 3 people to share and it was enough for the 4 of us. It came on a steaming hot plate that was sizzling. The big plate had so much steak juice on the bottom of it, we all took a spoonful and put it on our plates. It was the best piece of meat I’ve tasted in a while. The crust on it was magnificent and it was so tender, especially the filet mignon. The steak was medium with a good amount of red/pink meat in the middle. For dessert, I got a lava cake with vanilla ice cream. It is called a lava cake because it’s shaped like a volcano, but instead of lava coming out, it's ooey gooey chocolate. My brothers and I, all got the same dessert. My parents and grandmas were all jealous that they skipped dessert. The vanilla ice cream is super sweet and the chocolate cake is moist. When you eat them together, it's a delicious mix of warm and cold, sweet and chocolate flavors. It's a dessert that I would get again. I highly recommend this steakhouse for a remarkable dining experience.
