4. Separate the 4 pieces into two pairs try to keep them together lightly pinning them then sew the bottom and down each line and sides leaving the top open including the scoop.

5. 8'' wide x 40'' folded in half ironed then sides folded inside ironed again to get a 2'' strap

6. Lay in the pieces 2'' apart inside the folded strap to mark the width of the pieces and to mark on the inside the height of soon to be filled pockets.

7. Test pin to make sure its all even with the scoops to the outside.

8. Black pipe insulation cut in half . To be more period you could stuff the pockets with fiber fill from wool or hemp.

9. Slide in pieces making sure the round side faces out.

10. Full piece ready to trim.

11. Trimmed ready to be pushed in.

12. Completed inside view the lines for padding length help tell what is inside and outside.

13. Checking the fit you can trim a bit off the top of the pieces to get a good flat finish . Then sew along the length lines to seal the pockets. Make sure to use one stitch width on that only so you can replace the padding if it ever wears out.

14. This piece is under armor. Instead of tying the strap, I sewed in Velcro for ease of use. It lays flat under the hakama.
