Time Management

Spend less time planning and more time doing with shareable calendars that integrate seamlessly with Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Sites, and Hangouts. Further, connect any time via video, voice, or text with Hangouts for group video calls, virtual office hours, and field trips.

Overview:

In this Module, you will learn how to use Google Calendar to create and share events, as well as create an appointment calendar; and Google Hangouts to communicate and stay connected with colleagues via text or video.

Objectives:

Understand how to create and share calendar events using Google Calendar
Set up an appointment calendar
Set-up a Hangout and invite users to text or video chat

Tasks:

Calendar

Create a Committee Meeting Calendar and share it with committee members and your administrative assistant. Assign committee members permission to "see all event details"; assign your administrative assistant permission to "make changes and manage sharing". Alternatively, create an Appointment Calendar to schedule pre-/post-observation meetings with teachers and share the link to allow them to book a time slot.

Hangouts

Set up a Google Hangout and invite a colleague to chat using both the text and video features (Note: You will need a webcam and mic for the video portion of this task. If you are on a Chromebook, it is already built in).

Discuss: Complete the following on Google Classroom:

Share the link to your Committee Meeting Calendar (make sure to make your Calendar "public" or your Appointment Calendar.
Share your thoughts on the positive/negative aspects of using Google Calendar and Google Hangouts to collaborate and communicate with your colleagues, students, and families, and how you might integrate this tool into your leadership.
Feel free to comment on at least one other student's note.
