Each match is split into three parts called the autonomous period, the driver-controlled period, and the end game. During the autonomous period of the game, robots can only run on pre-programmed instructions and sensor inputs. There are several ways a team can earn points during the autonomous period. The first way to earn points is by lowering and landing the robot from a centerpiece in the middle of the field. Another way is by identifying a gold mineral from a sample field. They can also claim a depot by placing their team marker in it. They can also earn points by parking in a crater at the end of the autonomous period. During the driver-controlled period, teams can earn points by placing gold and silver minerals into their alliance's cargo holds and depots. The last 30 seconds of the driver controlled period is called the end game. During this period, teams can earn points by attaching the robot to the lander or parking the robot in or partially in a crater.
