2017-2018 Relic Recovery

About the Challenge:

This year's challenge is called relic recovery. The field is set up so that there are grey and brown blocks located in the center. Each robot starts on a balancing stone, and in order to participate, each robot must be able to balance on the balancing stone. Robots are given 1 block if they want, and when the autonomous round begins the robots have 30 seconds to knock the opposite colored jewel (a wiffle ball) off, allowing their alliance to earn points. Additionally, robots can also place blocks into the crypto boxes. The alliance will get extra points during the autonomous round if the robot can correctly read an image that tells it which column to put the block in. After 30 seconds, the teleop round begins. In this round, team members are allowed to control their robot. Each team aims to fill their crypto box with blocks and their alliance will be awards extra points if they complete the crypto box with a provided pattern. If a team finishes their crypto box before the teleop time is up, they are allowed to pick up the relic. Even if a team has not completed their crypto box, they are allowed to pick up a relic during end game, the last 30 seconds. There are 4 relics and each relic is located at a corner of the field. When a robot picks up a relic, they can extend and reach over the field wall to place it in one of the three box. A relic placed in the furthest box gives the alliance the most points. If the relic is standing, then the alliance gets extra points.

Our Robot

This is a video of our robot running an autonomous program. The robot correctly knocks off the opposite color jewel and correctly reads the image to tell it to put the block in the left crypto box column.

Qualifiers

This year we went to 2 qualifiers, one in Canton and one in Andover.

Canton: This was our first qualifier. At Canton we won 3 out of our 4 qualifying matches and 2 out of our 3 semifinal matches. Unfortunately we lost both of our final matches. We were awarded the connect award for showing our involvement in the community and the finalist alliance award.

Andover: This was our second qualifier, and the results were the same as the results in Canton. Between the two qualifiers we did not change our robot besides a few minor fixes.

State Championship

We finished the day at 16th out of the 36 teams there.
