West Bath School students strive to create high quality work that shows complexity, craftsmanship, and authenticity. Through the use of models, critique protocols, and feedback cycles, students create multiple drafts to work towards quality. Faculty time is used to participate in high quality work protocols to determine positive trends as well as areas to improve upon.

High Quality Work Protocol - August 26, 2015
The trends from the 8/26/15 High Quality Work protocol were that the products showed an overarching theme, had strong community connections, some evidence of craftsmanship, student voice in writing, multiple perspectives, authentic work, higher order thinking, and evidence of data and complex texts. The protocol highlighted that we still needed more evidence of process (multiple drafts and student reflections), more evidence of higher order thinking, more variety of formats, an increase in authenticity, and more use of rubrics.

High Quality Work Protocol - January 2017
The trends from the 1/17 High Quality Work protocol were that there was a distinct movement away from books to different final products, strong authenticity and connection to local or world problems, lots of evidence of multiple drafts, transfer of understanding, and evidence of every attribute of high quality work. The protocol highlighted that we needed to think about how to celebrate real world authenticity of the work as a common practice.

High Quality Work Protocol - February 5, 2018
This high quality work protocol demonstrated that we are consistently utilizing higher order literacy instruction and complex texts with students. The products show multiple perspectives, have transfer of knowledge, craftsmanship has improved dramatically from past products, and we utilized professional formats. Looking forward, we are challenged to ensure that our scoring tools lead students towards authentic and complex products.
