: a mentor is an academic coach, cheerleader, and advocate for their mentees. They are the first line of communication.
: a mentee is a student (you) who comes with their own set of beliefs, values, habits, and experiences.
: a mentor group is a mentor and all the mentees
: an arena group is two mentor groups
The mentor group is the heart of Competency-Based Learning. It is everyone's responsibility! You will:
-Establish norms (ways we treat each other to create a safe environment)
-Build relationships through circles, activities, and shared meaningful experiences
-Build trust with each other and your mentor
-Be accountable to your mentor for your academic success
Circles are great for building relationships and resolving conflict among students, teachers, and principals.
"Many times we do 'punishment' because it is faster. That will never improve relationships. Here, you are safe to fail. You are safe to try again. You are safe to own your mistakes and make it right."
