Management
MILESTONE 2, STEPPING STONE 2
MILESTONE 2, STEPPING STONE 2
In this stepping stone, we will...
explore two dashboards that can help you
practice gathering data from those dashboards for the student-led conference
1.1 Personal Work Habits
"I can manage my tasks and deadlines"
Read about your Task Dashboard and Competency Dashboard below
Click the template. File> Make a copy> Label: "My Dashboard Data"
Insert this document in your Student-Led Conference Presentation, slide 2
When complete, submit to Slate.
: Slate is a program with lots of tools to help students manage their progress in a Mastery-Based system. It has two dashboards to help you track your progress: the Task Dashboard and the Competency Dashboard.
: The Task Dashboard allows you to see all your tasks for studios. This is important because you get to see all the things you need to do in order to complete a studio. You can see your task due date, your task completion, and task feedback from your teachers!
To view your studios, tasks, and feedback, you will go to your task dashboard.
1. Log into Slate
2. Click on Tools
3. Click Task Dashboard
4. Click on the Courses
5. Select a studio you would like to manage
6. View: Tasks left to complete, due dates for those tasks, and any feedback teachers have given you.
Make sure you are working on those tasks that are due. Your goal is to have less than 10% of your tasks be red.
When you have completed a task, you can submit the task for feedback from your teacher.
1. Click on the task you want to submit
2. Click add link
3. Copy and Paste the link into the box
4. Hit submit
5. Your teacher will see your task when you submit and you will receive feedback from them. The color will change to lined green. If you get a yellow, that means you need to revise your work.
: The Competency Dashboard is a place to go when planning your year or tracking your progress to make sure you are on track.
Each student has a portfolio in this dashboard showing the competencies and their progress. Under each competency, students can see the skills required to show Mastery over that competency.
For example, this student's portfolio is yellow, meaning the student is in portfolio 2 (working on getting to a level 8-9 on these skills).
In "Conducting Research" the student has completed one skill under the competency at a level 10! The student needs to complete the other three skills in the boxes (Identify and select credible sources, Use systems to organize info, and Evaluate findings and draw conclusions) before he is completed with the competency of Conducting Research for that portfolio.
Students do this by going through Studios and showing evidence of their skill development in sessions and with tasks in the studio. If there is a blank, students will fill up the blank by demonstrating that skill in studios.
