: The pace or speed with which you complete tasks.
Because the system is about individual student success, pacing is important to understand. We will look at the overall goal for graduation and how you can stay on pace for your goals.
"Just sitting in a class is no longer going to get a student through."
Traditional education overall has seat time, the ability to sit for 60 hours and there you go, you have learned. However, some students take 20 hours of hard work to learn a new skill, practice, and develop it. Some students take 120 hours or more to learn that same skill. When we put students in a classroom and give them all the same time to learn and demonstrate learning, some have way too much time, some don't have nearly enough time. We are all individuals and learn at different paces.
In Mastery-Based Learning, students are given this time through a system change. "At your own pace" is a common way to put it. At your own pace means as you learn, not as you feel like it. Some students get into the habit of putting off tasks simply because they don't want to do them. Don't get caught in this vicious cycle. Pace means as I learn, not as I feel like learning.
Make sure you are meeting with your mentor, counselor, and principal regularly to ensure you are headed for graduation and are on track!
:The PLP, personalized learning plan, is a collection of tools for a student to track their progress and set goals. Your PLP shows your productivity, your progress made in your portfolios, the goals you create! You will want to link your PLP into your student led conference presentation and be able to explain what it means!
My Profile
This is your personal profile. Feel free to edit it with your own sense of self. However, please keep in mind that staff can look at your PLPs.
The bottom tabs take you to new pages. See what they are below!
1 point = 1 hour of work on a task
Productivity Points are points given to tasks and show if a student is working on tasks. It is how many hours you work in a day. Points are assigned to tasks in Slate. Points depend on how long it takes you to do the task.
The longer the tasks, the more points teachers have assigned that task. It is up to the teacher to give you more points if a task takes you a bit longer than the points are showing.
Recent Activity is a tool that shows you what tasks you have submitted. It shows:
the task,
if it is complete or in revision cycle,
when it was submitted
the point total it is worth
Great tool to show your daily work habits to your mentor!
Progress Report is a look at all your progress in competencies. You can be in different portfolios and it will show which one you are in for each subject area.
It will show you your performance level and whether that is on pace for that portfolio.
Portfolio Completion is a tool that shows you how much of the portfolio is completed for that subject area.
My Goals is a place to set and keep track of your goals that you can edit on your own or with your mentor. You can type right on the lines.
