Growth
Be the pilot, not the passenger.
How are you doing as a learner? Could you communicate that to a mentor? Why is that an important thing to be able to do? In the past, school = the teacher telling you how you are doing in your learning. Now, we want you in that pilot's seat to tell those who need to know, how YOU are doing in your own learning.
Agency is when we feel in control of things that happen around us; when we feel that we can influence events." - Bray, 2017
How is your weather today?
What does that definition mean to you?
What do you think someone needs in order to have agency?
Do you think you have agency? What does that look like?
What do you think learners have agency over here at our school?
Why would it be important for learners to know how to monitor their progress?
How do I monitor my learning?
In order to have agency, make decisions about your learning, you need to monitor your learning. This means knowing where you are.
At our school, we use digital tools to keep track of where you are. As a learner with agency, you need to know how to use these tools and what they mean. We will explore how to do this.
HoS 2.1 Monitor My Learning
I can find my performance level to see if I am on track
I can use my dashboards to raise my level
I can explain my growth
Mentees fill this out before or during conference depending on time.
Students can make a copy of the Mentoring Journal and use the Conferences all in one document!
Conferences are not a one and done. They are monthly or at least quarterly. Make sure you attend your conferences to get those ratings for HoS 2.1! We want many pieces of evidence in those portfolios- not just one or two.
Learning Intention:
I am learning how to monitor my progress, set and track goals, and create a post-secondary plan to ensure that I am college and career ready.
Success Criteria: (I know I can when...)
I can monitor my own progress (HoS 2.1) ✅
I can set goals (HoS 2.2)
I can create a post-secondary plan
Words to Know:
SMART goal
Learning cycle = your studio
action plan
weekly reflection
evidence
PLP
So, now that you know WHERE you are in your learning, we can focus on goals to get your that much further. So often we focus on setting goals, but not the action plan to get there, or the reflection of how we are doing on them.
HoS 2.2 is all about a three-step process.
Step 1: Set the goal for your studio
Step 2: Create the action plan
Step 3: Reflect weekly
These goals are written inside the PLP, personalized learning profile.
Go to Google Drive > Search "PLP" > Find My Goals > Click +
SMART Goals are not a one and done. They are updated with each new studio.
What does change should be your weekly reflections and maybe your action plan. The goal can change, but focus on meeting it. You will be assessed on HoS 2.2 when you have all three parts (goal, action plan, and weekly reflections) completed.

Words to Know:
post-secondary
So, now that you know where you are have goals with action plans to get there, let's explore the ultimate journey question-- What will you do after high school (post-secondary)? If you have anxiety about this question, don't worry. This is totally normal.
Some students get stuck that there needs to be one solid answer they know right now. This is unrealistic. What we can do is simply explore what is out there and get to know ourselves better. That is a fabulous place to begin.
How is your weather today?
What is something you are super passionate about?
What comes naturally to you?
Have you thought about what you want to do after high school?
What are some responsibilities of that career?
What are some careers I would like to explore?
What do the surveys say about me?
