Optional Spring Break Activities (el 30 de marzo - el 10 de abril / March 30 - April 10):

viernes, el 27 de marzo / Friday, March 27th:

  • Watch and sing along with the Calico song "Colores." This song includes all the basic color words (verde=green, rojo=red, blanco=white, azul=blue, negro=black, amarillo=yellow, anaranjado=orange). We have also learned café=brown, gris=grey, morado=purple, rosado=pink. Ask your child about the colors of different items in your house by using the question, "¿Qué color es?" [pronunciation: kay co-lore ays]. (If you want to learn them or hear their pronunciation, I have created a Quizlet vocabulary set here.)
  • Listen to the classic Mexican song "De Colores." I like the versions by Joan Baez and José Luis Orozco.

miércoles, el 25 de marzo / Wednesday, March 25th:

  • Sing and count along with the song "Cuenten Conmigo" (2:08), which we have sung in class. In addition to practicing the numbers 1-10, it teaches body parts (dedos = fingers; manos = hands; pies = feet) and verbs (contar = to count; aplaudir = to applaud; saltar = to jump).
  • Continue practicing the numbers (#0-15) in order, backwards, and out of order.
  • Follow along with a read aloud of a different book from the Tiempo de Leer YouTube channel to read. Choose one whose storyline your child already knows in English if you can.

viernes, el 20 de marzo / Friday, March 20th:

  • Sing along with the songs "Buenos Días" and "Hola a todos" (1:38)
  • Practice numbers 0 - 10 (forwards, backwards, and out of order); parents can use this Quizlet set for audio if they don't know these numbers (use the flashcards and there is audio for pronunciation). If your child knows these numbers well, you can use this Quizlet set to practice the numbers 0-15 (again, forwards, backwards, and out of order).
  • Watch this video read-aloud of "Oso Pardo, Oso Pardo" (1:22), which we have read in class.
