Thanks to those students who joined us for today's Zoom lesson. After doing our regular calendar routine (numbers, days, weather, etc.), we learned 11 animal words (perro = dog; gato = cat; vaca = cow; cerdo = pig; gallo = rooster; gallina = hen; pollito = chick; pato = duck; burro = donkey; caballo = horse; oveja = sheep) and sung the song "Mi tío tiene una granja" (My uncle has a farm) to practice them.

Optional Spring Break Activities (el 30 de marzo - el 10 de abril / March 30 - April 10):

  • Sing any or all of the songs on the K-1st songs page.
  • Continue practicing numbers 0-20 (depending on which numbers your child knows) - in order, backwards, and out of order.
  • Practice the basic color words.
  • Listen to any Spanish book read aloud on the the Tiempo de Leer YouTube channel.
  • Practice basic greetings (see here for some of the ones we have learned in class).

jueves, el 26 de marzo / Thursday, March 26th:

  • Watch and sing along with the Calico song "Colores." This song includes all the basic color words (verde=green, rojo=red, blanco=white, azul=blue, negro=black, amarillo=yellow, anaranjado=orange). We have also learned café=brown, gris=grey, morado=purple, rosado=pink.
  • Ask your child about the colors of different items in your house by using the question, "¿Qué color es?" [pronunciation: kay co-lore ays].
  • If you feel like he/she needs extra practice, you can use this Quizlet vocabulary set to learn them yourself practice with your child. There are virtual flashcards (with pronunciation), games, etc.

martes, el 24 de marzo / Tuesday, March 24th:

  • Log onto Reading A-Z using your username and password. (You can also use the teachers's ones - username: Wesley1st password: wesley .) Search for "De Colores" in the search bar (next to the magnifying glass), which is on the "Spanish Songs & Rhymes" page. Click on "Listen" and have the story read aloud to you. If you want, listen to other Spanish songs & rhymes on this page.
  • You can listen to another version of the song "De Colores" online. We have listened to the ones by Joan Baez and José Luis Orozco in class.

jueves, el 19 de marzo / Thursday, March 19th:

  • Sing along with the songs "Buenos Días" (0:49) and "Hola a todos" (1:38).
  • Make flashcards and practice numbers 0 - 15 (forwards, backwards, and out of order). Parents can use this Quizlet set if they don't know these numbers. It includes virtual flashcards and audio for pronunciation.
  • Watch this video read-aloud of "Oso Pardo, Oso Pardo" (1:22), which we have read in class. If you'd like to hear another story read aloud in Spanish, choose one from the Tiempo de Leer YouTube channel. Choose a book whose story you already know in English.
