Wells Rescued Glass

  • Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

  • Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

In the beginning of my senior year I had joined a social enterprise named rescued glass that up-cycles glass bottles into decorative household items. I am the co-leader of all operations of the business in my high-school. We have members in our club where we spread awareness of waste management, and soon will be collecting recyclable bottles, and sell recycled finished goods to cusotmers in our highschool community. Around the world there is less awareness about glass waste, therefore, joining this enterprise has allowed me to spread awareness regarding the issue in my high school. We also aim to soon begin selling decorative recycled glass products made by the enterprise to people parts of the wells comunity in order to encourage the use of recycled products.

Adopted a Dog

  • Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

  • Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

One thing that my family has always wanted but never put the initiative towards is a pet dog. In October of 2020, we as a family finally decided to get a dog, and we made the decision to adopt one. I have been a member of the K9 club for over 2 years and I had the opportunity to receive awareness of rescue dogs. I had also attended a trip to a dog shelter and help fix the shelter for the dogs that stayed there. This trip had me convince my family that we should adopt a dog, and we did. We got in contact with many rescue shelters and managed to find a puppy that needed a home. So we adopted the puppy, cared for her, provided her with a home, and made sure she was loved. This experience was very special for me and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Mangrove Teens and Dog Competition

  • Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

  • Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

  • Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

In my senior year, I had joined the inter-school social enterprise called Mangrove teens where funds are raised and donated to plant mangroves. In my position as the Treasurer, along with the other leaders, we had begun a pet photo competition where people donate money to join the competition and if their pet gets the most votes by the end, they get a treat basket. Participating in managing this event Helped me learn important collaborative skills and work with other people to accomplish a single goal. The competition was successful and we were able to collect enough funds to plant around 200 trees!
