After finding about the Khlong Teoy Music Program online, I contacted the owner and went to volunteer the following week. Specializing in music and art programs for underprivileged Thai kids, I genuinely liked the message the school is trying to convey, prompting my desire to volunteer for the art classes, which are held on Sundays. During my first class, the kids weren't used to me being there yet, so it took a couple of classes for them to warm up and be comfortable to engage in a conversation with me. During my experiences at the school, I found out - when a teacher asked students how much they receive per day to school - that a wealth gap exists even in a community of people some would consider to be living on a minimum wage. To me, this further supports why organisations/programs like this one is needed - in order for these kids to interact with more people and momentarily escape their sometimes unsafe environment (as some of these kids live in area with high crime rates).
