International Day MC - October 19 (Creativity)

2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

Having previously been an MC for Prom 2018, I had some experience to help during this event. However, I was still quite nervous as I had to speak in front of such a large crowd filled with parents, students, and teachers. Prior to the show, my co-MC and I practiced the script a couple times to help us prep and to also calm our nerves. This helped a lot, as the two of us were able to support each other to make sure we both felt comfortable. From this experience, I was able to boost my public speaking ability, as if during future events I have to do something similar, I won't feel as nervous.

Youths for SDGs - November 3-4 (Creativity)

3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively

6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Youths for SDGs is conference held for international high school students to come together to discuss global issues and raise awareness on the SDGs. The conference had three parts: discussion, activities, and a case study. I was a leader for one of the discussion rooms where we discussed issues regarding resilient infrastructure, promotion of inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation. I had to prepare how I would allot the one hour and a half I had with the participants. For this, I made sure to make the agenda quite flexible, as I wasn't aware how active the group of participants in my room would be. I found that they were a little reluctant to discuss as a large group, but once I broke them into smaller groups they were able to discuss possible solutions to the questions proposed from our discussion issues. Afterwards, I participated in the activities and the case study, where my team and I (pictured below) attempted to find the best solution to the proposed problem in the case study. Though the solution we came up with was not chosen to go through to the next round, I learnt a lot from this experience, especially from those around me. A lot of interesting and innovative ideas were passed around during this conference and I was inspired by some of them to make more conscious decisions in my life. For example, one individual I met was trying to go 'zero waste', something which is quite difficult in Bangkok, so I was really inspired by them to reduce my plastic and waste usage.

30 Days to Splits: December 1-30 (Activity)

2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

For this CAS Experience, I did the Blogilates 30 Days to Splits Challenge. For this, I did the first five stretches every day, holding the stretches for 1 minute each. For the first five days, I only did the first five stretches, but after day 5, I did added each subsequent stretch every day. I've always wanted to be able to do the splits ever since I was younger. It was great that I finally committed to and acted on this desire. Persevering throughout these 30 was quite difficult as it was final exam month and I had little free time, but I found the time. After these thirty days, I found myself to be more flexible than when I started this challenge. Even though I still am unable to do the splits, I think this is a step towards the goal of being able to do it.
