Grade 8:

Oct. 6, 2021: Math classes: Leadership Lesson

Objective: Students will reconnect with counselors and discuss transition to Grade 8. Students will recognize that they have the potential to be leaders at school. You tube Every Day Leadership

Feb. 11, 2022: Science classes: High School Course Selection Planning

Objective: To educate students on the high school schedule and high school class offerings. This lesson is a kickoff to transition planning.

April 8, 2022: English classes: Introduction to Careers:

Objective: For students to match interests to careers. This introductory lesson will help students learn about various careers.

Grade 7:

Sept. 24, 2021: Math classes: Transition to 7th grade

Objective: For counselors to reconnect with students and discuss the transition to grade 7. "How does your responsibility increase in Gr. 7? Which student habits will help you find success? Students will do a fun activity (drawing) in regards to the transition, and sign up for lunch groups.

November 10, 2021: English classes: Gratitude

Objective: Students will learn the benefits of practicing gratitude. Gratitude can enhance individual well being and also promote a positive middle school environment. Gratitude video

March 23, 2022: Social Studies classes: Course Selection

Objective: Students will learn the structure of Grade 8 and will learn about 8th grade course offerings

April 26, 2022: Science classes: Understanding Identity

Objective: To understand personal aspects of identity. Students will create an identity sculpture. Students will recognize that important aspects of our identity can change depending on what is happening in our lives. Students will learn the value respecting the identity of each individual.

Grade 6: Day 1 in 6th grade is the day in which counselors do lessons in House homerooms

Sept 13, Sept 22 2021: Transition to the middle school: Getting to know you activities, Who's Who in the building, tour to counselor offices, Name Art

Objective: To support the transition to WMS through activities and connecting.

Oct 8, 2021: All About Me

Objective: To support the transition to WMS by getting to know students in the classroom . Students complete a form that describe likes, interests, etc. and do a group share

Oct 19, 2021: Gratitude

Objective: For students to learn the definition of gratitude and all the benefits associated with practicing gratitude. Students received a gratitude journal.

Oct. 27: Circle of Support

Objective: With all the changes a new school can bring, it is important for students to identity adults available to them in and out of the building who can provide support.

November 4 and 15, 2021: Friendship

Objective: For students to understand patterns and changes of friendship during this stage of development. For students to recognize qualities of how to be a good friend .

December 7: Understanding Bias and how to Speak Up at School

Objective: Students will understand the definition of bias based behavior and how to speak up at school if witnessing biased based behavior. Students will view some videos from the 24/7 program. www.bostonpublicschools.org/Page/7889 The tools for speaking up are: Interrupting, question, educate, echo. Students will also be educated that they can always come to an adult for support and help.
