The judges found Kaya's paper original, moving, and memorable. The framing of the essay through her own experiences and observations was powerful and vividly rendered. The essay made fascinating connections between the social history and the case study that illuminated each. We think the combination of research, reflection, and analysis makes this paper a terrific model for social science research papers.
