Judges' Comments

Bloget’s paper represents a masterful approach to placing widely varying source materials in conversation with one another. The judges found this work to be particularly compelling in its ability to identify relevant, illuminating sources; understand and reflect on the nuances of those sources; and use them to advance the argument at hand. The work effectively utilized its well-chosen sources to create a fine-toothed dissection and reassembly of the assignment prompt. We felt that this essay was a true model of successful and innovative first-year writing.
