Teaching Practice

During the SEA-Teacher teaching practice at West Visayas State University – Integrated Laboratory School, I implemented structured lesson plans that emphasized student engagement, interactive learning, and conceptual understanding.

Both Lesson Plan 1 and Lesson Plan 2 were designed based on the MATATAG Curriculum, focusing on clarity of objectives, active participation, and meaningful assessment.

1️⃣ Pre-Teaching Phase

In both lessons, I begin with greetings, classroom setup, and motivational activities.

To build a positive classroom atmosphere, I use:

Prayer and attendance check
Class response routines (check our mood, clapping signal for readiness)
Warm-up activities such as “Rumah - Upacara - Nusantara”
Interactive games such as "Cabbage Relay"

These activities help students feel relaxed, excited, and ready to learn. They also strengthen my classroom management skills and relationships with 7th grade students.

2️⃣ Main Teaching Phase (Concept Development)

During the main discussion phase, I delivered the lesson material using exposition, guided questions, and information and communication technology (ICT) integration through Power Point presentations.

During LP 1 and LP 2, I emphasized:

Step-by-step explanations of mathematical concepts
Real-life examples to make abstract ideas meaningful
Active questions to stimulate critical thinking
Student participation through discussion and responses

Instead of immediately introducing the topic, I first asked students what they already knew. This encouraged them to actively construct knowledge rather than just passively receiving information.

3️⃣ Guided Practice and Application

After explaining these concepts, students are given structured practice activities.

These activities include:

Crossword puzzle worksheets
Question and answer sessions
Individual and pair work
Short written assessments

Through these activities, students apply the concepts they have just learned. I monitor their work, provide guidance when necessary, and ensure that there is minimal misunderstanding.

4️⃣ Assessment and Feedback

Assessment is conducted informally and formally.

I use:

Oral questions
Short written tests
Multiple choice assignments
Class discussions

Immediate feedback is provided to reinforce correct reasoning and correct misunderstandings. This helps students improve their confidence and accuracy.

5️⃣ Reflection

After each lesson, I reflect on:

The level of student engagement
The clarity of my explanations
Time management
Classroom interaction

Through LP 1 and LP 2, I learned that effective teaching requires preparation, flexibility, and empathy. Even with a structured lesson plan, adaptation is still important.
