Day 7: Henry Hudson
In this lesson, students will be learning about Henry Hudson the English explorer and navigator, who gained notoriety in the early 1600s for his expeditions that charted regions of what is now Canada and portions of the northeastern United States. Students will listen to a read-aloud biographical book about Henry Hudson and watch a video related to his life and explorations. Students will work in small groups to answer multiple-choice questions based on the video, create a drawing of what they believe to be Hudson’s biggest accomplishment, and justify their opinion. The lesson will have students demonstrate figurative language, an understanding of basic geography, and collaborative group working skills. Students will be assessing and evaluating information and constructing knowledge by actively exploring technology as well. The lesson will include various activity sheets, new vocabulary, and diversified learning styles that will benefit students. This lesson is aligned with PA Standards, NCSS Themes, and ISTE Standards and will be an engaging and positive educational experience for students.
