Day 10: Life of a Sailor
In this lesson, students will learn about the life of sailors through various activities. They will take part in a sing-along and will learn choreographed dance moves to the music video, “Over the Deep Blue Sea”. In partner pairs, students will be utilizing school iPads to watch an educational video, The Life of a Sailor, and they will be demonstrating active listening skills in order to answer the videos corresponding multiple-choice worksheet questions. This lesson will be incorporating mathematical and geographical skills as students engage in a hands-on math voyage worksheet. Students will be able to evaluate their knowledge of previously learned explorers, apply opinion-based writing, and exercise their creativity and artistic skills during this lesson. Students also will be strengthening their communication, teamwork, and independent practice abilities. additionally, the lesson introduces new vocabulary words to broaden students’ language and literacy capabilities. The Life of a Sailor lesson is an educational, hands-on, and play-based social studies lesson that includes NCSS themes and ISTE standards along with a wide range of diversified learning styles that will benefit the class as a whole. This lesson will be sure to capture the attention of young learners and provide them with a love for learning.
