Hello and Happy New Year!
The WCSC Board of Directors hopes everyone had a great end of year 2024 and happy holiday season. The New Year is upon us and we are organizing for an amazing 2025 summer pool season.
We have been reviewing all the current financial outlays for mandatory repairs that the County Health and Safety Department gave us last year. Luckily they gave us an additional year to fix them and didn’t require them to be completed last year before the pool could open. That is always a risk that a urgent repair be identified and not having a plan to accommodate it. The main item last year was the rubber caulking surrounding the pool. We contracted through American Pool, our pool maintenance company to fix it right after the season in the Fall last year.
If everyone noticed it seemed the main pool and kiddie pool continually had sand in the bottom throughout the year. The sand was not from the volleyball area as it seemed. The sand was filter sand from the older filters in the pump house. After reviewing when some of them were manufactured it was almost 15 years ago for several of them. We have some major renovations that are needed in the pump house so that we do not have a catastrophic failure during the season. We started these renovations this off season with replacing 2 of the oldest pool filters and upgrading the control levers to the latest code in the pump house. The cost of fixing both of these items (caulking, 2 new pumps, and new controls) was over $32,000.
Also, many have voiced concerns over the “roughness” of the pool bottom and the cracking floor. In a nutshell, the pool surface needs to be replastered, but that’s a major project that we are trying to put off for a bit. We have received an estimate for the resurfacing and additional update items for the pool to keep the pool in good working condition for all to enjoy. The first estimate was over $330,000. We feel we can chip away at some of the smaller items throughout the next few years so everyone doesn’t have to pay a huge sum out of pocket all at once.
The board of directors discussed the best way to raise the money to complete the necessary improvements and voted unanimously to raise the permanent membership pool dues to $660 which falls within the bylaws amount of no “more than 10%” that the board of directors can approve from last year’s $600 dues amount. The Annual or Yearly temporary memberships were also raised to $800.
Thank you all for your support and we look forward to having a great 2025 at the pool!
Hello Waugh Chapel Family,
Hope everyone is having a great start to the summer season at the pool. I'd like to thank the new Socials Director Shelly for the amazing start with our opening weekend and especially the special nights that have been going on. The Music Bingo seems to be the winner as the highlight of the season so far. I'm sure we can ask her to do more!
I'd like to first address the hours of the snack bar. We have had a few members reporting that they would like the snack bar to stay open longer in the evening. Taking this into account we have decided that the snack bar will now close 30 minutes before the pool closes instead of an hour. It will also serve hot food 30 minutes before the pool closes. We had it closing earlier due to the cost of personnel and the low revenue. We will monitor the revenue to see if it is conducive for keeping open the later hours
We have the upcoming Luau on Saturday, June 22nd for our members just over 2 weeks from today. The event offers food and an amazing show with Hula Dancers and Fire Dancer. This show has always been one of the highlights of the season. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to visit a piece of Hawaiian culture. If interested, you can buy tickets on the member-me app. If you have any questions or need help purchasing please contact our social director Shelly at socials@wcswimclub.org.
If you haven't already registered both our Swim and Dive teams are always looking for more swimmers and divers. It's a great way for the kids to meet and compete with other kids at the pool. These are competitive teams with a very chill and enjoyable atmosphere. This is especially for new families to the pool who dont know alot of people. Come out and enjoy as I'm sure you won't regret it.
