Quarter 3 Student & Parent Information
Students will be reading a retold version of Peter Pan after reading about the author and historical context. Then students read the book analyzing how the events in one chapter build on what came before and also analyze the illustrations.
The mid-unit assessment has students reading a new chapter for Peter Pan and answering text-dependent questions to show understanding of vocabulary and events in the story.
The end of unit assessment focuses on a new chapter of Peter Pan and answering questions to show understanding of the main characters in the story.
In this unit we are finishing reading Peter Pan and then reading chapters of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens to compare and contrast the stories. Students work on recounting the story and identifying the central message. Then students form their opinion of Peter Pan using evidence from the text to support their opinions.
Students recall and recount the plot of Peter Pan by identifying events from the story and the order they happened. Students also compare the 2 versions of Peter Pan.
The end of unit assessment has students support their opinion in a group discussion about both texts. Then they revise their book reviews to write a final copy.
Students will be reading a revised scene from Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens and then deciding on which scene they would like to revise from Peter Pan. Students need to keep the main outcomes of the story but can change character actions and development.
In the mid-unit assessment students answer questions relating to conventions of English we have learned and then revise another scene.
For the end of unit assessment, students will first read aloud a new excerpt from Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens for fluency (rate, accuracy, expression) and then summarize the text.
