Adaptations & the Wide World of Frogs
Quarter 2 Student & Parent Information
Quarter 2 Student & Parent Information
Students will be reading poems & pourquoi tales (why tales) about frogs. After reading several poems and stories, students will then write their own poems & pourquoi tales to explain something about frogs.
The mid-unit assessment includes reading a poem to answer text-dependent questions about the poem. Then students will read a new pourquoi tale and answer questions about the plot, identify key ideas & details, and analyze the structure of the story.
The end of unit assessment has students writing a new pourquoi tale that answers a new "why" question about frogs. Students will then choose one of their pourquoi tales to read aloud to the class.
This unit is all about students reading text closely to build their knowledge about frogs. Students will be researching the real reasons behind the "why" stories we wrote at the beginning of the quarter.
For the mid-unit assessment students will read a new section of informational text and answer text-dependent questions on the text. They will also gather research to complete a graphic organizer to answer a research question.
The end of unit assessment has students reread text and new text to gather information and plan a paragraph to answer a "why" question. Students will then write their paragraph using facts, definitions, and details from the text to explain the information they learned.
Students will be writing about a freaky frog we have learned about in class using text to gather information about their frog and its unique adaptations.
For the mid-unit assessment students answer questions about language and writing standards we have learned and draft the second proof paragraph about their frog.
The end of unit assessment has students revising and editing to write a final copy of their essay about their freaky frog. Then students will be assessed on language standards we have learned.
