Getting to Know Your Sport Presentation
Please take a moment to look through this presentation, even if you understand track and field.
Meet Schedule
It is the expectation that athletes are able to attend meets they qualify for. Please take a moment to mark these dates on your calendar.
Polar Bear Meets = outside!!
Polar Bear meets allow us to enter more athletes than normal. Everyone should plan on racing/competing at these meets.
JDL Meets = indoor track!
These meets have very limited entries! These are for varsity only and run very late (getting home around midnight or later; we do NOT stop for food)
*Athletes who do not qualify for a meet are not required to attend.

College Athletes
Interested in Competing in College?!
In college there are three divisions so if D1 isn’t for you, you can still run at a D2 or D3 school (D3 doesn’t offer athletic scholarships BUT will often times try to find some academic scholarship(s) for you). In D1 and D2 there are scholarship positions but schools often times have a few “walk-on” positions. A walk-on means you don’t get any money/scholarship but you are still able to be on the team.
Here is a link to a document from the NCAA website (<- click to visit site) called Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete : http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/eligibility_center/Student_Resources/CBSA.pdf

There are also club teams at many colleges which you can join. Club sports are typically run/founded by other students at the school. You will need to check the college website to gain information on what club teams they have. Parent Questions
Q : If you're on the Cross Country email list are you automatically on the Track and Field email list?
A: No. We have two separate email lists! An email was sent out (on the cross country list) with a form to get your email switched over. OR you can send an email to pmarshall@wcpss.net to get added to the list.
Q: You mentioned athletes need to be dressed for the weather. Are there specific types of clothing they need?”
A: No. Sweatshirt and sweatpants will work just fine. Here is a list of other items you may want to consider (but again are not required)
Q : I know you said the JDL meets have limited entries, are athletes who don't make it into the meet required to attend to support their teammates
A: No. While we would love for everyone to come, we have a limited amount of space on the bus so we will only be able to take athletes who are competing to the JDL meets. Athletes not competing will have a rest day/ a day off.
