Professional learning is a never ending process in a school.
The Switch to Canvas
This year, Baucom combined MTAC and the Canvas Crew. Our Canvas Crew attended several trainings to help familiarize us with this new LMS. The members of MTAC that were not on the Canvas Crew worked their way through the Canvas courses in order to assist staff with learning how to use Canvas.
In February, the Canvas Crew, with the assistance of MTAC, went to all grade levels to roll out the use of Canvas. Breaking this up by grade level allowed for more personalized PD. We also created our own videos to walk the teachers through setting up a class, adding assignments, etc. These videos are housed in our schools shared Google Drive for future reference. This plan gave teachers a glimpse of Canvas so the trainings in WakeLearns would be easier to navigate.
The new Promethean boards were a shift in learning. Along with the Canvas course tutorial, we had our district Promethean board expert, Amy Tice, available to train the staff on the features.
All teachers are having fun playing with this updated technology and are excited to share it's new features when they find them.

All attendee left NC Ties with literally hundreds of ideas. Some notable sessions included running student led conferences, using choice boards, creating game based centers focused on standards, and coding.
In the library, students will be working through a unit that incorporates 2nd grade science standards and stop motion video. Our hope is that this can be used as a student exhibition for the next school year.
This year, we had a special reason to reach out and bridge the gap between school and family. As Baucom 1.0 was knocked down, we moved to a school building that was physically further away from our base population.
While our PTA is exceptional at inviting families to our school for events, the school personnel wanted to make connections as well.
Below you will see some notable events that involved outreach.
Most classes spent some time watching the mayor of Apex, Jaques Gilbert, livestream the Armadillo who predicted the weather on Groundhog Day!
