Week 1-3: Students are either writing a fictional story of their choice or writing for the Big Pencil Award- Imagine your pumpkin has superpowers! What are they, and how does your superhero pumpkin save the day?
Week 4: Students wrote lots of poetry including an acrostic poem, a poem focused on including sensory details, a poem focused on repetition, and a shape poem.
Week 5: Students researched a frog on Epic and took notes on what they learned. This will help prep them for researching a frog from our EL book and writing a paragraph and then a research essay.
During our small group reading rotations, students are choose between two prompts to write about. Throughout the week(s), they go through the writing process (brainstorm, draft, get teacher feedback, revise, edit, and publish).
Weeks 2 and 3: Write a story about someone overcoming a challenge. Make sure to have a beginning, middle, and end. OR Write about a challenge you have faced and how you overcame it.
Week 4- Student chose to write about whether they would choose a rabbit or a penguin as a pet and why OR which season would you choose if you could only have one and why?
Week 5-6: Write a story with the moral never give up OR write a story with the moral it's okay to make mistakes.
Week 7: Students researched a famous Hispanic person and made a poster about them in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Week 8 and 9: Write a story with the moral think before you act OR write a story with the moral good things take time.
