Wake County Math Resources for Families

Q1

Equal Groups, Data, and Addition/Subtraction

Weekly Updates:

Weeks 1-5: Students are learning about multiplication and equal groups as the foundation. At the beginning of every math unit, they take a pretest to show me what they already know. Since we have a wide array of background knowledges on the topic, students are in small groups working on different skills within this unit. If you would like to know what specifically your student's group is doing, please email me!

Week 6: We will begin and finish our very short unit on data. We will cover pictographs and bar graphs and how to interpret data to answer questions. Additionally, they will learn to collect data and create graphs.

Week 7: We will start our addition and subtraction unit. In third grade, we move more towards using number lines and expanded form rather than relying solely on place value drawings. Students will also learn about estimation. Finally, word problems are a huge part of this unit and third grade in general.
