Weekly Updates Q1:
Week 1, 2, and 3: Students have learned around absolute location (using latitude and longitude) as well as relative location (we played a mystery item game to practice). They are now beginning to do research on a continent and will create an infographic to present their information.
Week 4: Students learned about the different regions of NC: Mountains, Piedmont, and Coastal Plains. They learned about how where you live impacts the way you live (in terms of clothing and architecture).
Weekly Updates Q2:
Week 7: Students learned the meaning of the word indigenous. They looked at a map of what North Carolina looked like before European settlers came to what is now known as the U.S. They learned that the native peoples and settlers had many conflicts. One such conflict was the Tuscarora War. Finally, they learned about the conflict over land and resources that led to President Jackson and the US Government to forcibly the removal of Indigenous populations including the Cherokee from North Carolina.
Week 8-9: Students learned about a variety of topics including: women's suffrage, the Civil Rights Movement and the Greensboro sit-ins. They also learned about coming of age traditions including: sweet sixteen, bar and bat mitzvahs, Seijin-no-Hi, and quinceaneras.
