Several times a year, MTAC sends out full staff surveys to gauge our staff's tech needs and comfort level. The results help drive decisions concerning purchases and professional learning offerings. We began gathering data for the 2020-21 school year with an end-of-year survey in April 2020 followed by a beginning-of-year survey to determine tech needs in August 2020. Just before winter break, we sent out another questionnaire to determine hybrid learning needs, and in February, we solicited feedback on a temperature check.
We began the school year by offering voluntary professional learning sessions (called TGIF - Tech-ing Good Instruction on Fridays) every Friday to address issues teachers were experiencing. As they became more comfortable, we adjusted the frequency. This spreadsheet includes every professional learning opportunity we have provided to staff this school year. We have reached every department and 81% of staff members through our efforts.
After each professional learning session, we ask participants to complete an exit ticket to help us figure out what our next topics should be and how we can improve. In our sessions, we try to model best practices for instruction, and the feedback also helps us figure out which approaches work for our staff members.
We maintain a course on Learning Central where KHS staff members can access all of our previous professional learning and complete it asynchronously if needed. The option allows staff members to revisit our sessions or experience it for the first time through presentations and videos.
We have been working to streamline the website and make it more functional for staff, students, and families. We have made extensive changes to these pages:
Remote learning page
Student Tech Support
Getting Started with Remote Learning
Teacher support page
The changes to the website have resulted in increased traffic to several of the pages we have updated, showing that the process is improving the experience for our community.
Designed to get multiple perspectives, the website scavenger hunt was done my multiple SIP sub-committees to inform how to improve the accessibility of the KHS website as a communication and tech troubleshooting tool.
TGIF lessons are designed for staff to increase their proficiency with technology tools while experiencing researched instructional techniques. A staff that continues to grow its practices improves access to education for our students. This lesson uses Pear Deck, breakout groups, Google Meet, jamboard, bell ringers, and a back channel to explore hybrid instructional options.
