Wake Forward is a new initiative for the 2018-2020 school years intended to strengthen the school library media programs in Wake County. Through assessment and training, Wake Forward helps media specialists and Media Technology Advisory Committees (MTACs) to evaluate the library program, target areas for growth, and work toward improvement and documentation.
We have a solid Tech Plan (Technology & Infrastructure at 9.33, Leading) in place that will be rewritten this year which has allowed us to successfully advocate for funds to maintain and add adequate classroom technology and increase student tech access. With professional learning as our Wake Forward focus in 18-19, our MTAC team led various PL on Google, Canvas, Digital Portfolios, differentiating for ELs, and more resulting in KHSCD emerging as a leader in the WCPSS Vision 2020 Digital Portfolio initiative and staff personalizing their learning through our KHSCDlc course and earning Digital Learning Credits for licensure renewal.
As part of the Wake Forward initiative, each WCPSS school is completing a School Library Program Assessment Survey. The KHSCD MTAC members completed the survey in fall of 2018 individually before results were averaged to complete the official survey. The results and KHSCD's standing in comparison to other school library media programs in Wake County are shown to the left. KHSCD is categorized as "leading" in the Technology & Infrastructure competency and "emerging" in all others. In many competencies, we rank in the 80th percentile of WCPSS schools or higher, though we have more room to grow in Curriculum & Instruction, Use of Space and Time, and Equity & Cultural Competency.
