In addition to instructional support and co-teaching, we provide content and research support to our teachers. We gather lists of resources in the library, help with database searches, and develop pathfinders for our teachers to use with their students. This often includes flipped instruction videos helping provide support even when we cannot be there. We gather these resources in our Research Zone so teachers and students can access them at any time.
As teacher librarians, we also teach Library Media Studies (LMS). This class is offered each period of the day and typically has 4-6 students per period. LMS standards address digital literacy, research, technology tools, and literacy, and our students participate in a semester-long project-based learning opportunity that culminates in a student-led week-long event. They gather their work and reflections in a digital portfolio and describe their efforts in a collaborative presentation.
