Google Takeout
Here is what you as staff or students need to know to migrate your Google files and websites:
- Usually 30 days after termination, graduation, or transfer, WCPSS will delete your Google Drive account. Files include:
- Any Google Sites created
- All files in your Google Drive (even those files shared with others)
- Not included: Files you placed in a Team Drive
- Any blogs created using Blogger
- Any Classrooms created
- Photos placed in Google Photos
- You CAN create an archive of your files and download a copy to place in a personal Google account using Google Takeout or transfer the files in one step with Google Takeout Transfer (see video and slides below)
- Make sure you possess a personal Google account (free!) or own enough storage for your files
- Visit takeout.google.com for archives/backups OR takeout.google.com/transfer to transfer to a personal account
Video above refers to using Takeout to download a backup copy of files ONLY, not transferring to a personal Google account.

So if you want to take a Classic or New Google Site with you, there are different steps. With a Classic Site, you can use the Google Takeout (see directions and video on this page)
For the New Google Sites (which most schools use) you cannot (yet!) directly transfer your Site. That may come soon when Classic Sites is turned off.
For now, we advise:
- Add your personal Google Account to your Site as an editor
- Duplicate the Site from your PERSONAL account
- Publish the Site again; you will be publishing it from your Personal account as a second instance of the page
- Check all the images/artifacts. You may need to relink them all/re-add them all on those pages. Remember--your WCPSS Drive will be erased, so if you do not relink them from your personal Drive, the files will show up as broken.
