Google Classroom End of Year Prep
As we begin getting closer to the end of this very unique 2020-2021 school year, you may want to begin planning what you need to do to close out your Google Classrooms. The WCPSS SHVL Team recommends these steps:
Return any outstanding work. When students turn in assignments, they give you ownership so you can grade it/comment on it. Until you return the work, you retain that ownership. Returning all work will ensure students possess ownership going forward, so they can reference it, add it to a digital portfolio, etc. To return the work:
Click the main Classroom menu (three line menu, top, left of Classroom)
Click To review under Teaching
Either look at all classes or use drop down for individual classes
Click any of the Turned in to select the student work to either add a grade and/or just return
Unenroll Your Students- Students (and co-teachers) can continue to access content from your Classroom(s) after the school year, even if you archive the Classroom (see step #3). To permanently remove their ability to do this:
Click the People tab
Directly under Students, click the check to select all (or click through the specific students you want to remove) and click Remove under the drop down
Archive Your Old Classes- This will not remove the class entirely, you can still access the content, it just removes it from the Classroom dashboard and stops any future changes to the Classroom. It also helps the WCPSS SHVL Team for future troubleshooting! You can STILL copy and reuse posts into new Classrooms. To archive your class(es):
From the Classroom Dashboard, identify the Class(es) you wish to archive
Click the three dot menu in the top, right corner
Click Archive
You can still find these in the Classroom Dashboard menu, just under Archived Classes and just follow the steps above to restore if needed.
Sharing Documents with a Google Group
Google Workplace words of wisdom... do not try to share documents with a user group. For instance a school doesn't want to have to type in every single person's email in the share so they create a group and all of those are in there. That will not work in our environment. You'll start getting a bunch of notification emails.
In the Fall of 2017. with the 3:1 CIP Laptop rollout for elementary schools, WCPSS began to utilize Chromebooks for students.
While a form of a laptop, you will definitely find things different on a Chromebooks. Please use these resources below to learn more:
