6th Grade Elective Registration Information
Each student’s schedule will include four year-long core classes (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) and a semester Health/PE course. This allows students to take an additional 3 semester-based electives from the Exploratory Elective Experience list.
Please note:
Students will choose their elective choices (primary and alternate) via a Google Form provided through their elementary school.
New state legislation requires all students to take an Arts credit to graduate from a North Carolina High School. All students will need to take this Arts credit at some point from Grades 6-12. For 6th-grade students, Band, Introduction to Dance, and Visual Composition I (6th-grade) count towards the graduation requirement.
Elective availability depends on the school’s master schedule. Selecting an elective does not guarantee placement in that course or that it will be offered. Students who do not complete registration by the provided deadline will be placed in electives based on availability.
Please contact your current elementary school counselor about the registration timeline.
The WCPSS Middle School Program Planning Guide outlines the curriculum for grades 6-8, focusing on core subjects (language arts, math, science, social studies), health/physical education, and elective courses.
Students will select either:
Band -AND- 1 primary semester elective and 1 alternate semester elective

WELCOME TO DDMS!!
Welcome, Class of 2033! Your middle school journey is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to welcome you to Davis Drive Middle School. My name is Helen Everitt, and I’ll be your school counselor throughout all three years of your middle school experience, starting with the 2026-2027 school year. I am thrilled to be part of your middle school journey! Starting middle school is an exciting new adventure - as a sixth grader, you’ll meet new teachers, make new friends, and discover classes and activities that help you learn more about who you are and what you enjoy. It’s okay to feel a little nervous—almost everyone does—but remember that this is a place to grow, ask questions, and try new things. You belong here, and this upcoming year is just the beginning of many great experiences ahead.
As school counselors, we support students through individual meetings, small groups, classroom guidance, and collaboration with parents and teachers. Our goal is to help you grow socially, emotionally, and academically so you can thrive and succeed, not only in school, but in life. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and so excited for the school year ahead!
