Steps To Take To Request SSA Testing for Your K-5 Student
Step #1: Click the link below and watch the SSA presentation created by the WCPSS Advanced Learning Services/ALS team. Click the speaker in the bottom right corner to hear the explanation for each slide.

Step #2: Talk to your student’s homeroom teacher about your desire for SSA testing. Talk about whether your student’s academic strengths are mostly in Math or ELA (reading & writing). Your student can only test for SSA in one of these two areas. You must choose this for your student when you submit your test request. Only parents/guardians can request SSA testing. However your teacher will be able to provide insight on how your student’s academic capabilities, maturity, task stamina, and peer collaboration skills show up in the classroom.
Step #3: Talk to your student about Single Subject Acceleration and their feelings about possibly working in an above grade level classroom for Math or ELA (reading & writing). Talk to them about having a different schedule from their grade level peers. It’s possible they could eat lunch and/or have recess and specials with another grade level. Talk to your student about how in 5th grade all 6th & 7th grade courses are online and asynchronous. There are no live teachers and everything is online.
Step #4: Visit the WCPSS SSA webpage that is linked below. Read carefully about the SSA test request and testing windows. These windows are set by the ALS team and cannot be changed by schools.

Step #5: Complete the Google Form created by the ALS team during your track’s window. After the testing windows close you will receive a confirmation letter from Ms. Sheehan about SSA testing. Your student will be tested at some point during the testing windows set by the ALS team.

New Students to WCPSS
Beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year, newly enrolled and newly attending WCPSS students will have the opportunity to participate in Fall SSA Testing. This opportunity is only for students in first - seventh grades. They must start this process within the first two weeks of enrollment/attendance. Fall testing is only available within the first two weeks of enrollment or before the end of the 1st quarter, whichever comes first. Students enrolling after the first quarter will have to wait until the Spring testing window.
If you feel your student meets this criteria contact the AIG teacher.
