AIG Schedule for Identified Students In Grades 3-5
In the Wake County Public School System AIG Teachers provide support in two ways - direct and indirect instruction.
Direct instruction is defined as AIG teacher led small groups for identified AIG students.
Identified AIG students receive 45 minutes of direct instruction each week in each identified area.
Small groups are held once a week for math and once a week ELA. The weekly schedule is not a set schedule due to the year round schedule of tracking in and out, but it often stays the same for 3-4 weeks at a time.
Small groups are held in the AIG classroom and led by the AIG teacher.
The AIG teacher engages the students in different learning opportunities focused around enriching the grade standards and collaborating with AIG peers.
Indirect instruction is defined as supporting teaching and learning by collaborating with teachers, administrators and other district level supports. This support is ongoing for all identified students.
For example:
AIG teacher participates in weekly grade level PLCs to provide the best possible framework and service options for the learning of our AIG students.
AIG teacher collaborates with teachers to determine the current wellbeing and readiness for the learning of each student.
AIG teacher collaborates with teachers to identify and remove barriers in order to create the best possible learning framework.
All AIG students are directly served once a week for 45 minutes for each area of identification. They come to the AIG classroom and work with the AIG teacher and their AIG grade level peers. Tracks are broken up as much as possible to help provide smaller student groups in AIG at one time. The days can change due to track in/out schedules or due to events going on at the school. For example, if there is no school due to a teacher workday Ms. Sheehan will try to move those groups around so they don't miss AIG that week. This helps ensure all students recieve their direct AIG service. Ms. Sheehan tries to keep the schedule as consistent as possible.
