Meet Miss Sheehan
Hello! My name is Anne Sheehan and I am the AIG teacher at Adams Elementary School. I started my teaching career in 2003 in Charlotte, NC. I taught in K-5 for a few years before deciding to focus on teaching gifted students in grade 3-5.
I started my journey as a teacher at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. There I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. A few years later I decided to go back and earn my master's degree in reading at Wingate University. Early on in my career I began working in classrooms where the AIG students were clustered together and it was simply amazing. It inspired me to learn more about gifted education. And so, I went back to UNC Charlotte to study gifted education and earned my AIG certification in grades K-12. In December 2024 I earned my National Boards. Becoming a National Board Certified Teacher was a process full of reflection, timelines, documents, and many weekends spent fine tuning my teaching practices. It was a long journey but well worth it. My ultimate career goal is to earn my doctorate in Gifted Education. You could definitely describe me as a lifelong learner!
I come from a big family and I love it! I have 5 siblings (one of whom is my twin sister!) and the world's greatest dad. In my free time I enjoy reading, drinking hot coffee, cooking, running, and exploring the North Carolina Museum of Art. I also enjoying spoiling my nephews and nieces as much as possible.
As an AIG teacher I have many goals for myself and my students. My most important goal is to provide our AIG students with the best support possible as they move through elementary school. I want to be able to support my students in achieving sustained academic success while simultaneously building on their own strengths and challenges. Along the way I know I will also be able to foster and build independent, strong-willed, and unique lifelong learners.
