Elementary students (K-8) shall attend school unless they have an acceptable excuse, such as illness, quarantine, doctor/dentist appointment, or extenuating circumstances. Students who are quarantined by the school system will be excused for the days of quarantine. Students who are self-quarantined by a parent/guardian must follow the re-admittance guidelines included in the West Carroll Parish Strong Start plan.

Attendance requirements are established by state guidelines. Students must meet the minimum attendance requirements to be eligible to receive a Carnegie unit credit. Students may not be absent in a course more that 7 times within a semester. Students not in compliance will be awarded an F for the semester in question.

K-12 distance learning attendance will be kept through Google Classroom/Meet sessions, completion of assignments by the due dates, and teacher/student/parent communication logs.

Attendance is defined as evidence of “engaging with the assigned material” daily. In a distance learning context, it is not sufficient for students to simply log into the online class to demonstrate academic attendance. Our schools have the responsibility of demonstrating that each student participated in class or was otherwise engaged in an academic activity.

Students will be given a “due date” for assignments and projects for accountability purposes; however, parents and students will have the flexibility of structuring their time in a manner that will lead to the mastery of academic standards for the student. Parents are encouraged to work with their students to develop and implement a daily work schedule during times of distance learning.
