Year 9 Subject Selection is an exciting phase of the school journey, offering students the first opportunity to choose some of their subjects. This website is designed to assist students and parents in the process of selecting courses of study for Years 9 and 10. In addition to reading the information on this website, students are encouraged to discuss subject content and the nature of courses with their teachers.

The in-class subject seminars are your chance to ask any questions you may have and gain advice on which subjects your teachers believe would suit your situation best. More information will be sent to students.
Students can complete their subject preference selections online Via Webchoice from the 14th of August 2023. The Webchoice link and code will be emailed to students on this date.
Webchoice closes at 4pm on Monday the 21st of August 2023. Students must submit their preferences online and print, sign and return the confirmation to the Student Office by the end of the school day on Tuesday the 22nd of August.
Students will be notified of their confirmed subjects for 2024 by the 13th of September 2024.
In Stage 5, students commence studies that will be presented in the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and that build on the skills they have developed to this point in their education. Additionally, students are given the opportunity to develop their talents and interests in individual elective subjects.
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) issues the RoSA to eligible students who leave school before completing the Higher School Certificate (HSC). The RoSA is a cumulative credential, meaning it contains a student’s record of academic achievement up until the date that he/she leaves school. This could be between the end of Year 10 up until and including some results from Year 12.
The grades are based on a set of Course Performance Descriptors developed by NESA. They indicate a student's full range of achievements in each course, providing a detailed report of overall performance and giving a grade for each course undertaken. In Years 9 and 10, students will study ten subjects, including six that are deemed compulsory by NESA.

Science
Australian Geography
Australian History
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.
Additional Subjects
Biblical Studies (four periods per fortnight)
Sport (four periods per fortnight)
Two elective subjects (chosen by students).
It is important that you select subjects on the basis of genuine interest and aptitude. The best subject for a student is one that they are interested in and extends their learning experience.
Remember that no subject, or group of subjects, is better than another.
A possible future career decision or aspirations for tertiary studies should not dominate choice at this stage.
You should avoid selecting subjects just for a particular teacher or to remain with friends.
Students are not required to study the relevant Stage 5 subject in order to choose a related HSC subject for Year 11, however, subjects within the same area of interest often provide some helpful preliminary knowledge that may be beneficial for the study of HSC courses. The following indicates how areas of interest may translate from one course to another. For additional information, students should talk to the relevant classroom teacher or Head Teacher.

Industrial Technology – Engineering -> Engineering Studies
Music -> Music
Physical Activity and Sports Studies -> Physical Development/Health/Physical Education, Community and Family Studies
Textiles Technology -> Textiles and Design
Visual Arts -> Visual Arts
In Years 9 and 10, every student will study two electives for 7 periods per fortnight each.
