The Hospitality Curriculum Framework is based on qualifications and units of competency contained in the nationally endorsed SIT Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package. The AQF VET qualifications available in the Hospitality Curriculum Framework at WCCS is: SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality, or a Statement of Attainment toward the Certificate II.
This course consists of:
Three mandatory focus areas (containing four associated units of competency)
A stream focus areas: Food and Beverage (containing four associated units of competency)
A range of elective units of competency which can be selected from the stream not already undertaken and/or the HSC elective pool of HSC Content – for the mandatory and stream focus areas.
Students undertaking the 240-hour Hospitality Curriculum Framework course will study three mandatory focus areas: hygiene, safety and working in the hospitality industry and workplace. They will then undertake the Food and Beverage focus area which includes customer service, espresso coffee, food and beverage service and non-alcoholic beverages. The remainder of the course is taken up with elective units of competency.
Yes, Hospitality does count towards an ATAR.
If you study Hospitality, you will be provided with a front-of-house uniform: black trousers, black poloshirt, apron and bakers cap. You will also be required to wear your fully enclosed leather safety shoes for all practical lessons and events.
Yes. Work Placement is a NESA mandated/compulsory requirement for the HSC. 70-hours, or 2 weeks work placement is required for every 240-hour VET Course.
Work placement can happen at any time throughout the course. The school works very closely with our Work Placement Service Provider (WPSP), SouthWest Connect who arrange work placements for all schools in the Fairfield-Liverpool local government area. Wherever possible, we try and arrange for you to complete all your work placement hours during Year 11. Most students will complete work placement in Term 3 and 4 of Year 11, however, a few students may have to wait until Term 1 of Year 12 to finish work palcement.
Yes - you will be required to do work placement in industry. However, if you have a part-time job in industry, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for up to 50%, or 35-hours of work placement. For more information about the RPL process, please speak to Mrs Barry. RPL is not guaranteed, so you may still be required to do the full amount of work placement.
Hospitality is a Category B subject, so it is highly practical in nature. The amount of practical work depends on the unit of competency being studied. Some units have more practical work than others. Generally speaking, you will do practical work once a week, or every double lesson.
