Reading Workshop

At the Duffy School we are committed to developing an English Language Arts program with shifts and program enhancements to meet the rigor of the adopted New Jersey State Standards. During the 2018-2019 school year, we are very excited to be implementing these academically enriched Reading Workshop Units of Study:

* Reading and Role Playing


Your child's reading experiences will include the following balanced literacy experiences:


Read Aloud: The teachers will model the culmination of good reading behaviors using mentor or core texts. It is an interactive reading experience where critical literary discussions take place.

Reading Workshop:

* Mini Lesson: Direct Instruction

*Reading/Conferring: Students read at their independent level while the teacher confers with readers.

*Share: Students reflect, connect, and share regarding their reading experience, internalizing strategies.

Small Group Instruction: Guided reading is a small group setting where students learn how to process a variety of increasingly challenging texts with understanding and fluency at their instructional level.
