Current Unit: Measuring Length

During Topic 12 we are focusing on using the appropriate tools to estimate, measure, and compare length using customary and metric units. We will also focus on the relationship between the size of a unit and the number of units needed to measure a given object.

Math Facts Fluency

Students are learning strategies to increase fact fluency. All you can do to help your child be fluent in addition and subtraction facts will greatly impact their success in math for all the upcoming years of study. So, find a rhythm and quiz them while doing dishes, riding in the car, wherever! Buy some flash cards at the Dollar Store or work with your child to make their own. Play "War" with the cards, flash them back and forth between you and your child--have fun and help them at the same time! Make up your own games! The reward is well worth the time!

Duffy School second grade classrooms use the Pearson Realize Program to present the New Jersey State Standards in Math. Each lesson encompasses a visual component, guided practice, individual and/or small group practice, problem solving, and written responses to math problems. In addition, many centers are utilized to provide spiral review, math facts fluency practice, and additional hands-on review of concepts and current topics.
