GT ELA Grading Policies
Writing = 25 %
Reading = 25 %
Assessment = 50 %
Please be aware that essays are always due on their Due Dates, regardless of whether or not you are in class. If absent, papers should be emailed (.docs, Google Docs, or PDF's only). Please ATTACH them rather than SHARING them. If papers are due to TurnItIn, they must be date stamped on the due date.
This policy is in effect because students are given several weeks to work on each draft. Also for that reason, being sick for a few days before a Due Date does not necessarily mean an extension will be given. It is expected that students do not leave their long-term projects & essays to the last minute.

PGT Late Policy
One day late = -20% / Later = -25%
Attached below is the form for requesting an extension.
Note that the decision lies with the teacher.

GT Magnet ELA Work Improvement Policy
Writing in the magnets is always focused on the multi-step writing process leading to stronger and more improved writers. We want the best from each and every one of our students. We understand that students sometimes do not reach their goal score with a particular essay. If the student hasn’t reached their goal or feels unsatisfied with their grade, they need to approach their teacher for the opportunity to rewrite within a week of receiving the initial graded essay. Students must understand that the highest they can achieve is an 75% or the points equivalent. The number of possible rewrites will depend on each teacher. The steps toward that rewrite are as follows:
1. Meet with your teacher at an appropriate opportunity. (Most often at lunch or after school, but talk with your teacher.)
2. Set up a rewrite plan.
3. Complete the rewrite within the time agreed upon.
4. Complete all essay rewrites no later than a week before the end of the grading period in which the assignment occurred.
Projects and other assessments in the magnets allow the ELA teachers to practice higher level thinking, research skills, and Common Core State Standards. We work very hard to provide pacing, work time and checkpoints to help achieve the best possible product. We understand that students may feel unsatisfied with their grade on some assessments and projects, they need to approach their teacher for the opportunity for improvement within a week of the grade being posted. Students must understand that the highest they can achieve is an 75% or the points equivalent. The number of possible improvement opportunities per individual assessment/project will depend on each teacher. If a student feels they would like to improve their grade, the steps are as follows:
1. Meet with your teacher at an appropriate opportunity.
2. Set up a grade improvement plan.
3. Complete the improvement plan within the time agreed upon.
4. Complete all improvement plans no later than a week before the end of the grading period in which the assessment or project occurred.
