Students should be reading independently for 30 minutes each night. They may read any book of their choice, including (but not limited to):
Novels
Graphic Novels/Comic Books
Magazine Articles
News Articles
Manuals (for learning how things work)
Newspapers
Poetry
Travel Magazines/Brochures
Encyclopedias
FanFiction (not always the best written work, but it is still reading!)
Things that DO NOT count as "reading":
Planners
Subtitles on movies or video games
Labels
Road Signs
To-Do Lists
Homework Assignments (Story problems for Math don't count!)
Students will record the progress they are making in their reading by recording the book and page number they are on each week. Students who are absent are expected to report their pages the day they return, or send via email. Failure to do so will result in an NE for the week.
I will enter a grade into PowerSchool reflecting their reading progress. The expectation is students will complete 5 days of 30 minutes/day of reading at home each week (a minimum of 50 pages/week), and the grade will reflect if this goal is met.
Students are expected to finish 2 books of at least 200 pages each approximately every 6 weeks (twice/trimester). These books should represent at least 4 different genres. When the student completes a book, the following should happen:
Log the finished book (title and pages read) on the Reading Tracking Chart on Google Classroom.
