Objectives:
This course is designed to introduce students to a fitness activity that provides stress relief, flexibility, coordination and strength. Students will learn skills that they can take with them through their lives as healthy adults. The techniques emphasized are designed to: increase flexibility, breathing techniques, increased strength while learning positive ways to reduce and cope with stress and anxiety.
Supplies Needed:
✔ Yoga Pants/Leggings/Tights of good quality/thickness) or to the knee shorts - Color: black
✔ Shirt (must be sleeved and able to tuck in - no crop tops/tank tops) - Color: gray or white
✔ Shoes that can be laced up tight and clean socks - no boots or heels
✔ Water bottle
Expectations:
Respect:
Students should respect the teacher, fellow peers and equipment at all times. A consequence of written fitness assignments will be assigned if needed.
Respect all equipment and use for its intended purpose.
All will respect the time given for class by being in class from bell to bell. Attendance will be taken at the beginning and end of the period.
Responsibility:
Students should be on time for class and prepared with the proper attire to participate every day.
There are three assessments throughout the semester where students are graded on improvement. Students will use partners to help complete each assessment.
NO CELL PHONES! Students must take responsibility and lock phones in PE lockers.
Presence:
Attendance is a MUST. 20 points are earned each class period. Three excused absences per quarter can be made up within two weeks of the absence. Students must complete a Make up Workout sheet in class on Friday’s.
Other Important Items:
GYM: The gym is closed before and after school and is only open during class periods unless noted otherwise by the teacher. Do NOT walk through the gym or use it as a hang out place.
LOCKER ROOMS: Lock up your locker at all times. All students will be given lock (lost lock: Fine of $5). No food or drink (water is ok). No glass. The use of phones in the locker room is not allowed!
EQUIPMENT CLOSETS are off limits. Students are not allowed to use equipment unless given permission from the teacher.
Grading:
Assessments: Fitness testing (based on improvement),
written tests, and other oral quizzes (CANVAS)
Participation/Effort: participation, dressing each day, and sportsmanship. Students will be given 20 points each day if all
the requirements are met for the day. Point deductions will include:
Missing part o the PE uniform:---------------- - 5 points
Not dressed for PE:------------------------------ - 10 points
Late to class:--------------------------------------- - 5 points
Not participating or poor sportsmanship:----- - 5 to 20 points (teachers judgment)
3. LATE: 3% deduction will be given per day the assignment is late

a. Make up opportunities b. Choice of activities/alternative activities
Listed above is the standard outline for each class. Most days will consist of a 30-45 minute flexibility/combination/relaxation yoga routine. Throughout the semester, students will learn to create a yoga routine that best suits their activity level. Mental and emotional balance will be addressed in each class.
Essential Standards (BIG Ideas)
Students will demonstrate knowledge and competency in motor skills and movement patterns (class participation, attendance, SSA & B).
Students will improve fitness levels by participating in regular physical activity/yoga (flexibility and strength).
Students will perform seated/floor poses, standing poses, strength poses and balancing poses (sequence build).
