This week we celebrated lots of positive office referrals, recognized our October Leaders of the Month, honored our students who had perfect attendance for the month of September, recognized students who have completed 25 or more iReady lessons, and hosted a lot of volunteers from the Corvette Plant who provided a hands-on experience for our 5th-6th graders.  It's been an amazing and full week at the Nest!

Today marks the end of our Attendance Month for September.  All parent/doctor notes need to be turned in by October 12th.  We are getting audited, so we have to close our month and send it to the state that afternoon.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Lori Boyd in the front office.  

Please remember that next week is Fall Break.  Students should have brought home SOAR the eagle this week for them to take with them next week.  Whether you are going on vacation or having a stay-vacation, please send us pictures at the email listed in this letter so we can see where he travels to!  We will see everyone back at the Nest on Monday, October 12th.  

Friday, October 16th is our Fall Festival.  It will start at 5:00 and end at 7:30.  Please see the image below to see all the events our wonderful PTO has planned.  There will be lots of games (each class has designed their own game), lots of great items ready to be auctioned off, and each classroom has a craft they have worked hard on to put in the auction as well.  Please come out and be ready to have a wonderful time!

In October, we will be focusing on Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind.  This habit is definitely one that we try to instill in our eagles because it's always important for them to set goals, work towards those goals, and celebrate when those goals are met.  Ask your child about the goals they have set and track in their leadership portfolios.

One simple way to practice Habit #2: Begin With the End in Mind is to help your child think about the end result before they begin.

Before starting something, ask:
💭 “What do you want the end result to look like?”
💭 “What steps will help you get there?”

🏠 Try it at home:

Getting ready: “What do you need to do tonight so your morning goes smoothly?”

Homework: “What do you want to have finished before you put your homework away?”

Chores: “What should your room look like when you’re finished?”

Goals: “What is something you want to be able to do by the end of the month? What can you do today to get closer?”

When children learn to picture their goal, make a plan, and follow through, they are practicing leadership!

I did want to share this opportunity with everyone.  We have some girls who are a part of this program.  If you would like to purchase you will need to reach out to the number listed on the flyer -we cannot accept any money here at school.  I have told Paige that anything brought in will need to be able to fit inside a backpack, or that student will need to be a car rider.  I know these girls are thankful for your support.

Student Attendance

Our goal this year is to have 96% daily student attendance. With that said, teachers and the front office will be reaching out more often to check on your children if they are absent. Official letters will be sent home if a student has three, six, or ten unexcused absences. If a student reaches six or ten unexcused absences, then our truancy officer will be contacted. Parents get five parent notes. If your child misses school, please provide a parent note or doctor's excuse within five school days of the absence.  Also, please take note of our new truancy law for this school year.  You may click here to read more about it.
