Welcome to the Weekly Journals of Beatrix Potter Primary School.
These journals will help you to understand what Beatrix Potter have been up to on a weekly basis as they have moved through their journey.
Entries are in reverse order so the latest available week is at the top. The earlier weeks will be at the bottom.
What we did this week...
This week we used our Apple pencils, and the Everyone Can Create resources from the Apple Learning Centre, to create some Pop Art. We took selfies and then used the Markup tool to add bright colours and speech bubbles. All of the children enjoyed the lesson and had lots of ideas around how they can use the technique in other areas.
What we thought of the session...
"I really enjoyed today. My final picture was really good! I am going to try and turn other pictures in to Pop Art"
Cillian, Year 5
What we did this week...
This week we used our knowledge of Keynote, and the Everyone Can Create resources from the Apple Learning Centre, to create a motion graphic. Our creation followed the example on the site and we all ended up with a duck bobbing across the ocean. We hope to use these new skills in some of our other subject soon!
What we thought of the session...
"This was quite tricky. There were a lot of steps to follow. We had to go back and redo some steps as we got them wrong but we managed to complete it. I am really happy with my creation!"
Eleanor, Year 5
What we did this week...
This week we explored the Camera App to capture images and video. We then used the built in editing tools to enhance our images and add filters, crop our images and use the Apple Pencil to add annotations. We also explored the built in editing tools for video footage. We added filters, trimmed our clips and cropped them too.
What we thought of the session...
"I knew how to use the Camera App before the lesson. But I learnt some new skills today. Like trimming video to get rid of the bits you don't want. I can now do this at home too!"
Cairo, Year 5
What we did this week...
This week we used Keynote. It was only an introduction but we learnt about the Themes, adding new slides and modifying the text and object. We also explored how we can use our Apple Pencils to add annotations. Soon we will be using Keynote to make a motion graphic!
What we thought of the session...
"Keynote had some amazing themes to choose from. I choose the the one with lots of different colours. I made the slides change and all the text boxes span around."
Meerab, Year 5
What we did this week...
This week we looked at Pages. The children have used it a little before but they benefited from taking the time to look at all of the tools and find new ones that they haven't found previously.
We plan on using Pages to document our science experiments later in the term. It is so easy to add images and descriptions.
What we thought of the session...
"I liked the different templates in Pages. They were really colourful. I choose the birthday invitation and changed the images. Next time I need to write up some work I will use Pages instead of the Chromebook!"
Molly, Year 5
What we did this week...
This week was our first chance to get our hands on the Apple Pencils. We paired them up, talked about how they work with the iPad and how we need to look after them.
We used Sketches School to try out the Apple Pencils. Take a look at some of the pictures above. We can't want to use them some more!
What we thought of the session...
"I have never used an Apple Pencil before. It was really easy to use and the art app we used was realy good too. Sir said we are going to use the pencils a lot. I can't wait!"
Kaci, Year 5
What we did this week...
This week we started our Apple Journey. We looked at our new devices and all of the features that we didn't know about. Some of us didn't know about all the different gestures. They were used to using iPad devices with home buttons.
We practiced taking screenshots and cropping them. This is going to be very useful when we evidence our work later in the project.
What we thought of the session...
"I was really excited about starting to use the iPads. I enjoyed learning all of the different ways we can take screenshots. The case are really cool too!"
Lois, Year 5
