The Accessibility strand of the Battersea Project focuses on how Apple technology can create more inclusive classrooms across Wandsworth. Working with Apple and our schools, we’re exploring how the accessibility features built into iPad can remove barriers, spark confidence, and open new opportunities for pupils with SEND. Both in our mainstream settings and in our local authority resource bases.
Apple has provided one-to-one iPads to two Wandsworth resource bases and class sets to 22 mainstream schools over the past four years. This year, our dedicated accessibility specialist is working directly with staff and students to help them discover not just the how of accessibility, but the art of what’s possible — inspiring teachers to see how small adjustments can make a huge difference to learning and participation.
This space will showcase our shared journey: success stories from schools, practical examples of what’s working, and useful resources that help staff make the most of the accessibility features already available on their iPad and wider Apple devices. You’ll also find links to training, events, and upcoming webinars designed to build skills and confidence in simple, accessible ways.
We’ll keep adding to this section as the project grows — capturing the creativity, innovation, and inclusion happening every week across Wandsworth classrooms.
