WHS Girls’ Soccer Expectations
Create and maintain positive relationships with your teachers and administrators in the building.
Participate in their team's fundraising initiatives.
Participate in their team's community service initiatives.
Adhere to the Chemical Health Policy, which states that use of recreational drugs, alcohol, and tobacco is prohibited.
Adhere to the Academic Eligibility Policy, which states that you must be passing all of your core classes. Freshmen get a 'fresh start'; however, any 10th, 11th, or 12th grader who is not academically eligible is not allowed to remain an active student-athlete in the program.
Bring your soccer ball to practice (every player is given a brand new practice ball!).
Take off earrings and necklaces before training begins and before pre-game warm up begins (for safety reasons and to ensure you don't lose your jewelry).
When warming up before a game, wear warmer clothes (sweatshirts/jackets) that are Waltham colors (black, gray, white, red). Varsity players should wear their varsity warm-ups.
When playing music aloud on the bus or during warmups, choose songs that are not overtly demeaning or vulgar (and make sure you are using the censored version of songs, especially during warmups).
Sprint on and off of the field (to your position/to call out your sub/to return to the bench & to get water during practices).
Acknowledge your sub when you come off and ALWAYS enter at half-field and exit as close to half-field as possible.
Acknowledge your coach when you come off of the bench, especially if you are frustrated with how you’ve played, with the fact that you are coming off of the field, or with how the game is going.
Give your goalkeeper a high-five or a fist-bump after half-time AND after the game, despite the score.
Jog back to the bench AS A TEAM after half-time and after the game.
Say “good game” to each opponent when going through the post-game line. (ALWAYS make contact with each player, especially the opponent you dislike the most!)
Thank the officials after the game by saying, “Thank you, Official/Referee."
Say “hello” and “thank you” to the bus driver when getting on and off of the bus.
Take action if you see that your coach and/or captains need help carrying things/picking up the field after a practice or a match.
Remember that you are someone who is representing our entire program: Be mindful of how you talk about your teammates and coaches to people outside of the program.
Think about the impact your words on social media may have. (If your words could negatively impact the program, do not post them! If your words will pump up your teammates and shed a positive light on our program, post them!)
Leave the field/location—no matter if it is our home field or our opponent’s field—cleaner than when we found it.
Stay for the scheduled time when watching another team in our program's game (i.e. if varsity is scheduled to watch JV, varsity must stay for the entire time that coach scheduled...and if JV is scheduled to watch varsity, they must stay and *watch the game). *Watching means refraining from doing homework and staying off your phone!
